I will more than likely stay home from church if it’s raining Sunday morning, or if dressing the kids turns into a battle.
I waiver in my faith.
I question almost everything. I sometimes feel like an outsider in a world of such dedicated Christians.
There is one area however, where my doubts and questions and insecurities fall away.
That area, is the closet in my master bedroom.
Before anyone mentioned to me “the gift of 7” as an approach to devotional time, I had already cultivated my own 7 minutes with God.
It went by a different name – “Hide and (don’t) Seek” – but it still had the same purpose.
See, sometimes, when I feel overwhelmed or hopeless or confused, I tell my two year old sons that I need to go time-out for a while. They think this is normal and appropriate since they themselves have a fair share of time-outs every day - why wouldn’t Mommy also deserve a few time-outs also?
So, I leave my phone in the kitchen, tell my boys I’m going to time-out, go into the master bedroom closet, turn off the light, close the door, sit or lay on the floor and then…
And then?...I do nothing. Click here to continue reading the full devotional....
