Perspectives Class

Room N-253, 9:45 AM Sundays

Class Structure

Perspectives is a weekly class with fun and interesting discussions each Sunday.  As we all have busy schedules, the class is structured so that if you miss a week, it doesn't put you "behind" when you return the next time.

Mission Statement:  Applying Christian principles to our daily lives through shared discussion, service, social events, and spiritual growth for couples in their 30’s and 40’s.

Curriculum

Our discussion topics relate scripture to contemporary Christian issues such as marriage, communication, careers and parenting.

The class curriculum is being scheduled through winter 2007.  We have recently enjoyed class-led discussions on Religion and the Supreme Court, as well as on Israel and Palestine.  Currently, we are focusing on Methodist history, current religious events and preparing for Advent studies.

Please note there will be no class on October 21st, as we will be greeting the troops at the airport.

We participate in material-sharing with other adult Sunday school classes by donating our old study materials to the church library.

Class members are encouraged to volunteer and lead the class discussion on these topics or others of their choosing.  If you wish to volunteer, have any comments or suggestions, or would like to order materials, please contact curriculum team members Chad and Laura Hesters c_hesters@mindspring.com.

Missions Projects

The class mission projects are focused on the troops.  Care packages are periodically sent to our armed forces throughout the year, and these are assembled with the help of our children on class family days.  In addition, Perspectives takes class time on selected Sunday mornings to greet our troops at the DFW airport.

Perspectives provides dinners to the families that are served by Project Hope at different times of the year, most recently in August.  We also organize dinner deliveries to our class families with new babies---a long-time tradition!

CUMC sponsored collections drives like the Salvation Army Christmas Tree and school supply drives are annual mission projects which our class supports.

Class treasury funds go to a number of charities, including CUMC's Shoe Ministry, Crop Walk, Alternative Christmas, House on the Corner and UMCOR emergency relief.

Perspectives also supports the Christian education ministries providing volunteers to teach older elementary Sunday School at CUMC.

Keep the following upcoming mission opportunities on your calendar:

September 24th - 28th:  Giroux dinner delivery

October (TBD):  Noon dinner delivery

October 6th:  Gregorek yard sale (gently used items are needed)

October 21st:  Greet the Troops

November 4th:  Family Project Day

We need volunteers for our Missions Committee.  Please contact Beth Downs at bnb_downs@hotmail.com
