Kid's R.O.C.K.

Camp Kids ROCK Pictures

Kids R.O.C.K. is our fabulous program for 4th & 5th Graders! The name stands for Kids Rely On Christian Knowledge. The goal of the Kids R.O.C.K. program is to help our 4th & 5th graders create a foundation of Christian knowledge that they can rely on both now and as they grow in Christ. Additionally, the program will engage them in diverse activities so they may develop a solid base of friends in Christ.

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock." Matthew 7:24-25

The program includes Sunday School at 8:45, 9:45, and 11:00, as well as Beyond Sunday fellowship events. The Sunday school format and topics vary from hour to hour, but the children will have a wonderful learning experience whenever they choose to attend.

At 8:45 a.m., all 1st through 5th graders meet in Room 213 and "Rock Solid" curriculum is used to teach the Bible stories.

At 9:45 a.m., 4th & 5th graders meet in Room 211 and they will learn from the "It All Fits Together! God's Story: Genesis-Revelation" curriculum in both Large & Small Groups.

At 11 a.m., 3rd through 5th graders meet together upstairs in a different Rotation Room each week. Children will focus on Biblical topics in different classroom settings such as Science & Cooking, Art, Drama, Movies, etc.

Our monthly Beyond Sunday events give them an opportunity to spend time with their friends and make new ones. See the Children's Calendar link to the right for a list of all the Kids R.O.C.K. events. Detailed information about each event will be provided via the Snapshot, email, and this website as each event date approaches. Register for these events online. (See links in box to the right.)

Enroll your child in this program by clicking here. (If you need to get a login created, please allow 1 full business day for your request to be processed by a "real human being!") After you are enrolled, we will then add your child to the Sunday school rosters, make them a nametag, and send you Permission Forms so they are ready to register for any of our Beyond Sunday events.

Parents, we have all kinds of roles for you to play: Sunday school teachers, supply team members, Beyond Sunday event coordinators and helpers, and more. Please contact Anne Deegan to see how you can help your child build their "foundation on the rock."

The Kids R.O.C.K. Christmas Mission Party was fabulous fun! This year we took on 2 great mission projects. First, we decorated room 211 for the Project Hope banquet by making placemats, covering tables, wrapping up utensils, etc. Then, we adopted four 4th & 5th graders from the Salvation Army Angel Tree and went shopping at Target for their gifts. It was amazing to see our kids make wise shopping decisions as they considered the wants and needs of their Angels. Finally, we rushed back to the church for cocoa and cookies!

Christmas Eve Service Rehearsal - New date & time! Each year, the 4th & 5th graders at CUMC become a live Nativity scene at both of the Children's Christmas Eve Services (4 pm and 5pm.) No one has to learn lines, just dress in provided costumes and follow simple staging directions. We fill all parts by drawing straws! All 4th & 5th graders who want to participate should come to the Choir Room on Sunday, December 21st from 12:15-1:15 p.m. We will assign parts, try on costumes, and practice.

"Created By God" Workshop Coming January 22nd - 24th Talk about sex?! At church?! With my parents?!!!

CUMC invites all 5th and 6th graders and their parents to participate in a very special workshop, "Created by God". This enormously important seminar focuses on God's gift of human sexuality from a Christian perspective. There are many layers of purpose to the "Created by God" program, but the main function is to educate children and parents in the Godly principles regarding our sexuality and to affirm that growth and change in our bodies is part of God's perfect and wonderful plan for our lives.

The seminar offers an ideal opportunity to gain an open door to conversation about a number of sensitive and scary subjects from the perspective of child and parent. What a great opportunity to allow the church, with moral foundations of our Christian faith, to assist you in the awesome responsibility of teaching your children about their sexuality! Remember that your child will not be jumping for joy at the aspect of learning "the birds and the bees" especially in such a public setting but don't give in! Stand strong and sure that God's plan is good, and that opening the door to stress-free conversation is a gift. Don't miss this opportunity.

Leading the workshop is Laura Atterstrom, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional Counselor, who brings many gifts and graces with her as a facilitator, including a wonderfully warm heart. Laura is certified by the United Methodist North Texas Conference to lead "Created by God" workshops. She has taught Sunday School and youth Confirmation classes and also participated in three "Created by God" workshops as a parent. This will be Laura's sixth time to lead the workshop here at Christ UMC!

We'd love your help! Small group leaders (i.e. parents) are essential for this seminar to take place. We need 1 adult male & 1 adult female leader for each group of 7-8 children! For 50 kids, we need 12 to 14 adults! Note: parents are not allowed to lead their own child's small group. This is a great opportunity to hear and know what your child has learned, but from a fairly safe distance! Don't be scared...small group leaders do not teach, they facilitate games and activities during breakout sessions.

The workshop is offered to just 5th & 6th graders each January and May. We are enrolling now for the January workshop. The class is limited to 50 children and the cost is $40 per child. The fee covers the workshop, a "Created by God" book, Friday snack, and Saturday lunch. Please note that attendance at all sessions is required. Here is the workshop schedule:

Thursday 7:00-8:30 pm Session 1 - Parents Only

Friday 6:30-9:00 pm Session 2 - Children & Small Group Leaders

Saturday 9:00am - 2:00 pm Session 3 - Children & Small Group Leaders
