Bethesda United Methodist Church in Sa'a, Cameroon
The Cameroon Mission was established in October 2005. Pastors and lay delegates from 19 congregations met in April 2006 for the first Annual Meeting of The United Methodist Mission in Cameroon. Marji Bishir, CUMC member and coordinator for this project was also present at this historic occasion. Status as a "mission" puts Cameroon under Episcopal authority, namely that of Bishop Benjamin Boni of Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), who presided at the annual meeting. Today the day-to-day operations of the Cameroon church is primarily directed by missionary Rev. Wesley Magruder, a pastor from Allen Texas, and a member of the North Texas Annual Conference.
Currently, Cameroon is more than 60% non-Christian. They primarily follow the ancient tribal religions, or are Muslim.
