One Step At A Time

I am anxious for my grandson Liam to learn how to crawl. At six months, he is very close. He will turn himself over onto his belly and try and try until finally he bursts into tears with frustration. I really thought he would have it down by now, but I am learning how incremental the process is. The muscles have to develop one day at a time. But before long it’s going to happen. That is nature’s way.

I am relearning those same lessons in our current work on the Building Committee. We are still “stuck” in the Master Plan stage of the project, and for some very good reasons. The Master Plan work focuses on where all present and future buildings are going to be, how the parking lot is going to be laid out, and how the buildings will connect with one another. In other words, we do not yet have any floor plans or drawings other than basic footprints, and we have made no aesthetic decisions regarding colors, materials, or even style. I thought that we would be much further along by now, but I am rediscovering how incremental the process is. But if this part isn’t done well, what comes next will be a disaster.

I guess this is by way of apology. I thought that by July every member of Christ Church would have had the opportunity to look at drawings that would at least give them an idea of what the Building Committee is thinking about. Right now, that wouldn’t be much. But rest assured that, as we make progress, we want you “looking over our shoulders” to provide input and suggestions. One of these days this baby is going to crawl, and we want you there when it happens. Building a church building is a lot like watching a baby grow: you want the whole family there to cheer and encourage what God is doing through the miraculous process of growth.
