Reunion

Almost 20 years ago our church came together for a rather remarkable experience. As part of our very first capital campaign to raise the funds for our present location, we went to a banquet hall and had an all-church dinner. Even though our church was much smaller then, we still had three worship services, and the experience was eye-opening. I will never forget how exciting it was to have everyone together in one room, and also the numbers of people who said to me, “Wow! I never really understood how large our church is!”

Now, almost two decades later, we are going to do it again. The REUNION DINNER at the InterContinental Hotel on April 20 will be one of the truly memorable moments in the history of our church. There will be a terrific meal, exciting music, a few inspiring words, and a video presentation that you will not want to miss. We will start at 5 p.m. and conclude at 7 p.m. so that the children of CUMC will all be in bed on time. By the way: the price is right. A church member has graciously agreed to be your anonymous host on this night, and child care is being provided at the church.

I have a confession to make: in my “old age” I am not nearly as excited about social events as I once was. Bobby Ann says that I am “no fun” because I’d rather just stay at home or go to the ranch and ride a horse. But I can tell you that this is an event that I simply would not miss even if I were not the senior pastor of Christ Church. Twenty years from now people will be saying, “Do you remember that Reunion thing that we had? It was really a great event, and it was an historic moment in our church.” I want to be able to say that I was there the night that the whole family gathered to celebrate the remarkable 35 years of Christ United Methodist Church history.

I’ll see you at the Reunion!
